Christina's column was off the beam
In her Baraboo News Republic column of April 14, 2009, former education reporter Christina Beam bemoaned the fact Patty Spragg lost her bid to be elected to the Baraboo District School Board and she seemed to place the blame for Spragg's loss on the group Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility (CFFR). Beam seems to forget a lot of people voted to defeat Spragg. So goes the process of free elections
Beam also accuses CFFR members of smear tactics, negative platforms, and personal attacks during board elections. I am asking Beam for documentation of these accusations as soon as possible.
Beam also seems upset because some CFFR members endorsed and backed Ed Mortimer and Ray Borkenhagen for the Baraboo School Board.
I am one of those who backed Mortimer and Borkenhagen and am proud of it and would do it again.
Board member Judd Maxwell accused Mortimer of asking for large amounts of open records so he could share these records with supporters who would use the information in letters to the editor.
Beam picked up on this and labeled these people "talking heads." If either Maxwell or Beam would have taken the time to verify what they are alleging they would have learned that before I wrote my letter to the editor listing wages and benefits of administrators I was in contact with District Administrator Crystal Ritzenthaler and Business Manager Jim Long requesting information for my letter to the Mailbag. The label "talking head" is inappropriate, not at all factual and almost juvenile.
Beam speaks of smear tactics and personal attacks. If one wants to see what these look like read Beam's column in the April 14 Baraboo News Republic, Maybe Beam ought to read her column again. To clear up any misunderstanding I would like to inform Judd Maxwell and Christina Beam that I write my own letters to the editor and the content of these letters is mine.
I intend to remain a member of CFFR and to use the open records law, news media, DPI, Internet, and whatever source of documented information I can find to use as reference when I write letters to the editor.
I would like to thank all of the supporters of CFFR for their past and continuing support and backing. Thanks again.
Ed Borski,
Baraboo
