Dateline: Baraboo, WI 9/10/06

It has been reported that 9 juveniles were apprehended by City of Baraboo police last evening around 9PM at Mary Roundtree athletic field for the theft of several “Vote No” signs.

According to what was reported, a Baraboo officer observed someone removing a Vote No sign from a nearby yard. Officers followed the subject to an area just west of the tennis courts near a utility building where two vehicles were parked. When officers arrived, several subjects went behind the utility building. When officers identified themselves, the subjects came out from behind the building carrying Vote No signs and MASKS! One of the subjects was heard making the remark that they were not the only group removing Vote No signs.

Police recovered approximately four signs from the vehicles and one from the tall grass near the baseball diamond to the east. One of the signs was specifically identified as the one the officer saw removed by one of the subjects. There were not any vote yes signs involved.

According to Police Chief Dennis Kluge, the police department produces a press release each weekday. Additional information or clarification will be forthcoming Monday 9/11.
